On 31st August 2012, the Land Public Transport Commission ("SPAD"), introduced a new free city bus service that goes around the Central Business District area of Kuala Lumpur ("KL").
The Go-KL bus |
Called the Go-KL bus, you can't miss these lilac coloured buses scooting around KL. There are two main lines; the Green Line which runs between Bukit Bintang and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre ("KLCC") area and the Purple Line which runs between Bukit Bintang and the Central Market. Do NOT confuse the colour of the bus with the bus route as all the buses are lilac coloured!
You can see the routes here: Go-KL bus routes
Not only are the buses totally free-of-charge, there is also free Wi-Fi and the buses are new with good air-conditioning.
The buses operate from 6am to 11pm, with a planned frequency of 5 to 15 minutes between buses.
Having tried the buses, we found it a convenient and especially useful way to get from one part of the CBD to the next. It is especially useful for tourists to get to the main tourist spots in the city with minimum of fuss.
From Bukit Bintang, you can wait for the buses of both lines at the bus stop in front of the Sahara Tent restaurant off Ain Arabia ("Little Arabia") on Jalan ("road") Sultan Ismail.
At KLCC, the Green Line bus will wait at the bus stop in front of the Suria KLCC mall on Jalan Ampang.
The Purple Line bus starts at the bus hub on Jalan Sultan Mohamad, near to the Pasar Seni LRT station.
Have fun trying it out, after all its free!
